At present, the Palestinian Authority is classified as a permanent observer "entity" at the UN. Last year, its bid to become a full UN member state failed due to lack of support at the UN Security Council, which needs to recommend applications to the General Assembly. This year's bid for upgraded observer status requires only a simple majority at the Assembly. http://bit.ly/U7d7ej

Bangkok (Thailand), 26 November 2012 - Worldwide, nearly US$1 trillion in bribes are paid each year, according to a World Bank Institute estimate. In East Asia and the Pacific, home to nearly one-third of the world's population, corruption is a critical issue for the business community since high levels of corruption represent a disincentive for foreign direct investment and for the development of free and clean markets. http://bit.ly/V1HH83
